Edison Ehie resigned as Speaker for peace, stability – says Governor Fubara

Sim Fubara, Governor of Rivers State has clarified the reasons behind Edison Ehie’s resignation as Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly. The announcement came during a gathering in Port Harcourt, where Governor Fubara spoke to an audience that included notable figures such as former state governor Peter Odili and his wife, Mary.

Edison Ehie’s decision to step down as Speaker was a strategic move to foster peace and stability in our state,” Governor Fubara stated. He emphasised that this move was not about personal gain or power but was a testament to the leadership’s commitment to the well-being of the people. “It is to tell you what we can do for peace,” Fubara explained, addressing the concerns and questions raised by many about the sudden resignation.

Ehie, a loyalist to Governor Fubara, resigned amid a tense political situation involving a rift between the governor and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

His resignation, which was formalised in a letter dated December 29, 2023, and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been a topic of much speculation and discussion in the state’s political circles.
