From music to poetry Written by: Ikeh Peter Uchenna Where music is at its best, there poetry is beginning to emerge. Poetry is music’s transcendental form, the height of its beauty. It is for this reason that the best music of all times often has poetry embedded in its lyrics. This is because it endows music with brighter rhyme and more awesome flow. Poetry has always empowered music to shine, being a conveyor of powerful emotions. Poetry helps us to express deep emotions that ordinarily would be inexpressible and music simply utilizes this for its art, it shakes us, unfolds us and reveals our true feelings. The path of poets and musicians are greatly intertwined. This is because music relies heavily on poetry for inspiration, energy and content. Without poetry, music would be a boring adventure and its industry would have been by far back-benched compared to what we see today. It is not surprising that most musicians are poets also. Poetry also has philosophical bearing. It furnishes our thoughts and ideas with a medium for transmission to the outside word. And so, poetry not only serves as an expresser of emotions but also a conveyor of thoughts and meaning. It quickens us to release our mind to the world. To become a poet does not require any certification or special training, it only requires what you already are- to be human, to have your own ideas and to have your own feelings. Those are the three conditions needed to become a poet and I am certain that every human being meets these conditions. However, to become an outstanding poet, you need to continually immerse yourself in the works of skilled and famous poets who have long gone before you to discover and master the Art in a superior way. This will enable you to become an outstanding thinker. Poetry makes the difference when with our heart as poets we can walk the path that philosophers with their brain strive to pass through.
